Here are some more tricks for Mac OS X Lion newbies:
Autocorrect
OS X Lion introduced the auto-correction similar to what you have on iOS…but it can be handy but it can be a pain in the butt, and you might not notice a correction took place while typing and it got changed with a really odd word! It’s better to turn it off IMO.
Go to System Preferences > Language & Text and select the Text tab
Uncheck the ‘Correct spelling automatically’
Move files with keyboard shortcuts
Copy the file or folder with the usual CMD + C
Paste and move using CMD + Option + V
Put your contact info on the lock screen
OS X Lion will now allow you to have your details on the lock screen.
Go to your ‘Security & Privacy’ preference pane and check ‘Show a message when the screens locked’
Fill it in with your information and hopefully, in case your Mac goes missing, someone will contact you.
Move applications out of the Applications folder
With Snow Leopard you could have simply dragged applications into a different folder. OS X Lion only creates a symbolic link, or alias, if you simply drag.
If you hold the Command key as you drag, the application is moved.
Add a page to the reading list
A new feature in Safari for Lion that allows you to save a webpage for later reading or viewing. No need to have the reading sidebar always visible though:
Hold the Shift key and click the link to send it to the Reading List.
Emoji support
You know what Emoji are, right? The smilies you can add in text messages. OS X Lion introduce them to your Characters pane and you can add Emojis to your texts when typing.
Open the Characters window using the keyboard shortcut CMD + Option + T
Select the Emoji tab and drag the selected smily in the text
Use Quick Look in stacks
This was not possible with Snow Leopard but thankfully with Lion you can preview your files directly from the stack in the Dock.
Move the mouse over the file and hit the Spacebar to preview.
