Apple’s new OS is different from its predecessors and it takes time to figure things out. Here some more tips for those new to Lion that will shorten your learning period.
How to revert scrolling to old-style
For many, the new scrolling feature is a pain in the butt. It makes sense if you had a touch screen but not this way, after scrolling for years in the same direction.
To revert it, open System Preferences (Mouse or Trackpad) and untick the ‘Scroll direction: natural’
How to add Gmail, or AOL accounts
Go to System Preferences/Mail > Contacts & Calendars. Pick your service from the right. Similarly to iOS, enter name, email and password. All done.
Search the Web and Wikipedia from Spotlight
Open Spotlight (CMD + Spacebar) and type in your query. From the drop-down menu select ‘Search Web’ or ‘Search Wikipedia’
Get the old Dashboard look
If you prefer the old look that Dashboard had, open System Preferences > Mission Control and untick ‘Show Dashboard as a space’
To get the old Mail interface
From the Menu Bar, select Mail > Preferences > Viewing and tick the ‘Use classical layout’
How to get the scroll bar back
What were they thinking when they’ve removed the scroll bar! How would i know how long a document is?
To get it back, go to System Preferences/General and select ‘Always’ under the Show scroll bars
Making accented characters
Same as in iOS, when you hold down a letter key while typing and a list of optional letters will pop up.
Customize the System Preferences Menu
You can pick and choose which settings panels showing in your System Preferences.
While in System Preferences, select View > Customize and uncheck what you don’t want.
