Here’s a random collection of Lion OS X tips and tricks:
-Reset Password
Since the utility to reset a password is gone from the Recovery HD, you need to access the Terminal to reset your System’s password
In the Terminal (Applications > Utilities) type
-Preview Spotlight results
Spotlight is a great tool to use when looking for anything in your Mac-hine. There’s a way to preview the Spotlight results
Select the file, hold the Command and you’ll see a status bar appearing at the foot of the preview; wait a moment and the bar toggles between the item’s name and its location. You can even preview video files: move your mouse over the video preview and a play icon appears.
- Change Login screen background
This method involves changing a file used by the System. Back up before doing this.
The original file used for the login texture background image in Lion is called NSTexturedFullScreenBackgroundColor.png and it’s a 256 X 256 PNG image
If you would like to replace it, the path to get to the file is:
-Prevent apps from re-opening windows
Lion’s Resume feature will re-open all the documents that were closed when you Quit your Mac.
To prevent the windows from re-opening, you can disable it globally in System Preferences > General or ad-hoc by pressing Option before you head for the Quit menu, which changes Quit to Quit And Discard Windows
-Turn off zoom effect on new windows
If you don’t like the zooming animation when opening a new window, open the Terminal (Applications > Utilities) and type
Reboot your Mac for changes to take effect
If you want to get the animation back, repeat the same command replacing NO with YES
