The Dev-Team has just updated their redsn0w 0.9.8b7b to jailbreak the latest iOS 5.
Earlier this week, Apple released iOS 5 beta 7 about 12 hours after the Dev-Team released its upgraded redsn0w to jailbreak beta 6.
Although the tool was capable of jailbreaking the latest version of iOS 5, you had to point redsn0w to the iOS5 beta 6 ISPW to successfully jailbreak your device.
This latest edition of redsn0w has taken care of that so you can now point the tool directly to iOS 5 beta 7. The team has also added some overall improvements for old-bootrom iPhone 3GS.
This is a very important release because it allows again users that are jailbreaking iOS 4.3.4 and 4.3.5 to use again ultrasn0w, meaning that iPhone users relying on carrier unlock can now successfully use redsn0w.
From the Dev-Team blog:
We’ve also added some overall improvements for old-bootrom 3GS owners (where the 24kpwn exploit applies): on those devices, you can tell redsn0w to untether 4.3.5 and lower, or iOS5b7. Old-bootrom 3GS owners can once again choose custom logos, and/or verbose booting (for the really nerdy iPhone3GS fans out there!). And it allows 4.3.4 or 4.3.5 users to use ultrasn0w again (if they have a compatible baseband).
Last but not least, we fixed some lingering Verizon iPhone4 4.2.10 JB issues.
Redsn0w 0.9.8b7b will jailbreak iPhone 4 (GSM-CDMA), iPhone 3GS, iPad (first generation), iPod touch (third and fourth gen).
The tool will work for iOS 5 beta 7, iOS 4.3.4 and iOS 4.3.5.

NOTE: very important, reboot your device doing a clean shutdown (slide to power off) before jailbreaking.
Jailbreaking with redsn0w is a very easy process: download the iOS you are going to jailbreak and place it on the desktop. Plug in your Apple device and start redsn0w.
Point the tool to the downloaded iOS you’ve placed on the desktop and from here follow the onscreen instructions.

Yes is tethered.
There was a bit of confusion at the beginning because the Dev-Team Blog was mentioning untethered…but tested and it’s tethered.
