If you are a jailbreaker, then you know that the Dev-Team has found 5 exploit in Apple’s A5 processor and the team is currently working on the untethered jailbreak of iOS 5 on iPhone 4S.
Meanwhile the BigBoss has released a semi-tethered jailbreak for iOS 5. This will as usual support all devices running on iOS 5 except for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.
iPhone 3GS old-bootrom users already have an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, so you guys are also off the list.
The Big Boss has quickly summed the mean features of the Semi-Tethered jailbreak:
1) Can use phone, sms (text messages)
2) Can use every other stock app on iphone.
3) Cannot use mobile safari
4) Can use other appstore web browsers such as atomic web browser
5) Cannot use mail app. You could install a gmail app from appstore or such instead.
6) You cannot use any jailbreak tweak, app, cydia until you boot tethered.
7) While in the semitether booted state, you should not add a jailbreak ios5 notification such as sbsettings to notifications during this state or your device will be stuck in a respring loop until you get home to “boot tethered”.
How to get Semi-Tethered jailbreak on your device
-Install iOS 5 and using redsn0w, jailbreak your device. This is our tutorial for the jailbreaking and this is where you can get the latest redsn0w version 0.9.9b7 for Mac and Windows.
-Once you’ve jailbroken the device, and unlock with Ultrasn0w if you need, launch Cydia and tap on Manage > Sources
-Tap Edit on the top right and Add on the top left.
-Enter this URL and tap Add Source
-Go back to Cydia, scroll down till you find thebigboss.org/semitether repo and tap on it.
-Select SemiTether and click Install.
You’re done. Please notice that SemiTether is still in beta and you may encounter some hiccups. I’ve tested it on iPhone 4 GSM and it works fine. Thanks BigBoss.
