I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’m noticing a lot of 8-bit games being released lately. Is it the current trend?

The popular iOS game-maker Chillingo, released on Thursday a retro looking game for iPhone and iPad: Rocket Riot HD.

This delightful 8-bit-graphics game is a must for those who like side-scrolling-while-shoot-everything games.

Rocket Riot‘s main character is equipped with a jet pack and a bazooka and using the very precise touch controllers, you guide his flight against enemies and a completely destructible environment. You can even use the bazooka to blast your way into a different area of the map.

Your enemies are ranging from zombies to rocket-propelled pirates and you need to eliminate as many as you can to go through the 48 levels and to unlock over 100 playable characters.
