Apple will allegedly launch a new MacBook Air line during the 1Q 2012 and a 15-inch model will be added to the laptop line.
According to a Monday’s report coming from the Taiwan based Digitimes, sources from the upstream supply chain reported that Apple has already started a pilot production of the new MacBook Air models that will include the usual 11.6-inch, 13.3-inch and a brand new 15-inch model.
The source also says that Apple will start dropping its prices for the existing MacBook Air models before the launch of the new line.
This price drop has already materialize but we thought it was due to the Black Friday promotion. Apparently the lower prices that you can score right now from Best Buy or MacMall are here to stay. This is because Apple is looking to further increase its market share in the global notebook market by offering more competitive prices.
So it appears that previous rumors about Apple testing a thinner 15-inch LCD display, were actually referring to the display that will be used for this new Air model and not for a new MacBook Pro line.
