How to delete Gmail messages in iOS Mail instead of archiving

January 23, 2012

iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Some of you who have a Gmail account  on your iPhone or iPad may have noticed that the there’s no Delete button on your device for when you want to trash an email. Instead the gmailemails get archived.

Those who are happy about archiving old or unnecessary emails can keep it that way, otherwise there’s a way to disable the archiving feature and get the Mail app to trash.

On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch:

- Tap on Settings
- Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- Select Gmail
- At the bottom you’ll see Archive Messages. Toggle the switch and tap Done on the top right.

That’s it.
