Free Applications

I don’t know if you’ve read it or not, but it appears that Twitter stores the contacts of your iPhone for a period of 18 months and Apple also freely gives application developers access to iPhone contacts. WTF!

We have no idea what degree of privacy we have -or don’t have- when we use services like Twitter, Facebook or Dropbox.
The latter for example is a very popular cloud storage and cross-platform syncing service…but again is your data safe and private? We’ll never know…therefore you better protect yourself.safebox

There a great free Mac app called Safebox that I’m strongly recommending to any Dropbox user, or any other cloud storage service. What the app essentially does is encrypting the files you want to keep safe, before you upload them to the cloud.

Safebox acts as an intermediary between your system and your preferred cloud storage. After installing the app you’ll have to set up a password which will be used as your encryption key. Don’t lose it. The encrypted files will be placed in a new folder that Safebox will create, before uploading it to the cloud service.

The app is in Beta stage and available on an invitation base. Sign up and wait to hear from Safebox…in my case took less than one hour.

Safebox for Mac is free and can be downloaded here
