According to a recent report from the hit-and-miss publication DigiTimes, Apple is expected to introduce the newly redesigned MacBook Pro models as soon as April 2012.
Citing a source from the Apple supply chain, the Taiwanese publication says that the new MacBook Pro will have a thinner and lighter design, probably similar to the MacBook Air.
DigiTimes’ source also says:
Apple is expected to launch upgraded 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pros in April with initial shipments estimated to reach 900,000 units.
While we are talking of MacBook Air, in another report, also from DigiTimes, Apple is allegedly looking to introduce a 14-inch Air model, with production scheduled for the near future.
Currently, 14-inch panels are the mainstream specification of the Asia notebook market, while consumers in Western countries prefer 15-inch models. In the global market, 14-inch models have an about 20-25% market share, but in Asia, the market share is about 35-40%, an indication of Asia consumers’ fondness for 14-inch models, the sources noted.
If this marketing move proves to be true, it would be specifically targeting the Asian market, which is where most of Apple’s revenue is generated.
As usual, take these reports with a pinch of salt. There have been rumors for quite some time of a MacBook Pro redesign, but we cannot guaranty it will happen as soon as April. And regarding the 14″ MacBook Air…I’m skeptical…but I could be wrong.
