The Apple event just took place in San Francisco and this is what happened and what the Cupertino company has announced.
Tim Cook took the stage first and told the public about the revolutionary device that defined a whole new category, the iPad. “In many ways reinvented portable computing” said Apple’s CEO.
The company has sold a staggering 315 million iPad, iPhone and iPod touch through last year, 62 million just last quarter. 76% of Apple revenues comes from these devices.
As expected, Cook announced Siri in Japanese as part of iOS 5.1.
Eddie Cue took the stage and introduced the all new Apple TV with a new UI is now in full 1080p and ‘is gorgeous’ says Eddy.
The new Apple TV supports photo stream “Now when I take a photo on my iPhone it automatically appears on my Apple TV without my having to do anything at all.”
The price for the new Apple TV will remain $99.
Tim Cook came back on stage and started talking numbers about the iPad: 15.5 million iPads sold the last quarter, “more than any PC manufacturer sold in their entire line”, very impressive.
Tim Cook says that Apple is once again “redefining the category that Apple created with the original iPad.”
Phil came on stage and announced as expected the iPad with Retina display. “Text sharper than a newspaper. Photos will look incredible. Fonts look amazing, it’s a huge step forward.” 2048 x 1536 pixels!”
He says that the new iPad has more pixels than your HDTV at home. 264 pixels per inch. Under the hood the brand new A5X chip, the X stands for quad-core graphics.
The rear iSight camera is a 5-megapixel with backside illumination and 5-element lens. Auto-exposure, auto-focus, auto-face detection and HD video recording in 1080p resolution. The new iPad also has a built-in stabilization.
In the keyboard there’s a new microphone key, same as iPhone 4S, that allows you to dictate to your iPad.
Yes! 4G LTE, “Now the new iPad supports HSPA+ for up to 21Mbps, and if you haven’t heard about dual-carrier HSDPA for up to 42Mbps.”
According to Phil, battery life is the same 10 hours on the Wi-Fi model and 9 hours on 4G. The design remains the same and price will also start at $499, $599, $699 respectively for 16, 32 and 64GB. The 4G model will cost $629, $729, $829. Preorders are available as of today, with delivery March 16 in 10 countries: US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia.
Apple announced the updating of iWork, iMovie and Garage Band….and the whole new iPhoto for iPad that according to Phil it’s amazing.
Similarly to iPhoto for Desktop, you’ll be capable of editing, adding effects, and the new Photo Journals.
iPhoto on iPad will work with images up to 19 megapixels, which is pretty crazy. To add effects to your pictures, you’ll simply rub over the image with the chosen brush available from the palettes, to make changes.
iPhoto for iPad is already available from the App Store for $4.99. iPad only.
The iPad 2 16 GB Wi-Fi will now be reduced to $399 and the Wi-Fi + 3G 16GB $529. This is really huge, a lot more people will now purchase the iPad 2.
