Apple iPhone 3G owners with one of the following baseband 05.14.02, 05.15.04, 05.16.01, 05.16.02 still cannot jailbreak/unlock their devices since Ultrasn0w doesn’t support any of these baseband and probably never will.

To find your baseband go to Settings > General > About and look for Modem Firmware, that’s the baseband.

In this post you can find a custom iOS 4.2.1 already jailbroken and unlocked. Both are using the iPad 06.15 baseband. iPhone 3G will not support any firmware higher then 4.2.1.

Note: if you install this IPSW, you’ll be  upgrading the baseband to iPad 06.15 baseband. The process is not reversible and the baseband cannot be downgraded.

This firmware has been jailbroken by us, it’s clean, already jailbroken, activated and good to go.

Download iTunes 10.1.1 for Mac or Win

1. Start iTunes and plug in the iPhone

2. Put the device in DFU mode.

Press and hold the Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds. Keep holding the Home button and release the Power. Hold the Home button for 10-12 sec until iTunes tells you that a device in Recovery mode has been detected. Release the home button.

iTunes DFUitunes restore iphone

3. Mac users: Hold the keyboard Option key and press Restore in iTunes. Win users: Hold left Shift and press Restore in iTunes

4. Point to the downloaded IPSW that you have placed on the Desktop and let iTunes do the rest.

5. Once it’s all done, turn on your iPhone Wi-Fi and let Cydia update the packages. Now you need to install Ultrasn0w to unlock the iPhone

6. Reboot the iPhone. Select Cydia > Manage> Sources > Edit > Add

7. Enter http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com as source url and press add source button (Note: ultrasn0w includes a letter 0 (zero) not alphabet o).

8. Once added, return to Cydia and tap Done

9. Select the ultrasn0w URL you’ve just entered and select Ultrasn0w from the list of packages

10. Press Install > Confirm and reboot the device

11. Power-off the iPhone by holding the Power and Home buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the Power Off screen.

Done, you now have a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 3G

Does this enable push notifications? I’m using iPhone 3g. I’ve noticed that my YouTube works. But I haven’t downloaded an app with push yet. Thanks! :)

    • silversurfer

push notification will work. But you have to turn Notifications ON in your settings

    http://www.filefactory.com/file/ccb48f6/n/iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Custom_Restore.ipsw

this link is no longer working. please send a new one thanks!

    • silversurfer

yes…you are right. just checked it and not working.

i have to re-upload the file. It will take a few hours

  • silversurfer

uploaded the file and replaced the link. All good now

    • Richard

I was able to download and use this file. However, it did not update the baseband and it’s still 5.15.x Any reasons why?

      • silversurfer

?? How can that be? Is the iPhone jailbroken? Do you have Cydia on it?

        • Richard

yes, it’s jailbroken and cydia is there as well. I installed ultrasnow but it won’t accept my other sim which is not supported.

I’m trying to restore again using this and will keep you posted.

      • silversurfer

        yes, pls do.

  • jessica penson

u need to use a different redsn0w, get it from here http://www.kittyra1n.com/jailbreak-and-unlock-iphone-3g-4.2.1.html

  • Richard

same results. it’s jailbroken but baseband is still 5.15.04. I can install ultrasnow but of course it does not work.

    • silversurfer

Why don’t you try making your own IPSW? Use Sn0breeze or PwnageTool and select the 06.15.00 iPad baseband. It’s very easy.

  • Richard

I would if I can. my problem is that my power button is no longer working. Those applications require to go into DFU. I’m only able to get into DFU by using the loop process to trick the phone into DFU. However, if I do that, redsnow wouldn’t work since it requires a working version prior to using it. any help you can extend is very much appreciated. Thanks

    • silversurfer

I’ve found there’s a way to put it in DFU without buttons:

Going Into DFU Mode Without Button Pushing: (on windows) Easier than timing the buttons just right!

1.) First download the required archive http://www.sendspace.com/file/93fx93

2.) Extract the archive to the root of your hard drive, should be C:/DFU/

3.) Connect your iPhone and ignore iTunes

      4.) Goto Start – run

      5.) Next type in “c:/dfu/dfu iBSS.m68ap.RELEASE.dfu”

6.) Wait for iPhone to show a “white” screen

7.) Now you may proceed to downgrade!

**also these files are found in ibrickr’s directory except for the .dfu file**

Hi, I’m having trouble restoring using the custom restore as it keeps coming up with error code 1600 and says that it is unable to restore as an unknown error occurred. do you have any ideas to fix this? i have tried a few things like stopping the process in task manager and trying again but it doesn’t solve it! thanks for your help

        • silversurfer

You need to use iReb before restoring the IPSW

    • Richard

tried this procedure before and tried it now but it’s not working

Going Into DFU Mode Without Button Pushing: (on windows) Easier than timing the buttons just right!

      • pit

i had the same (error code 1600) problem. I put iP into DFU mode via redsnOw 0.9.6 b5 using original software, the run iTunes, option (or shift) click Restore and voila!

  • Sakthi Ganesh

it is asking for a specific program to run iBSS.m68ap.RELEASE.dfu

  • Malz

Thank a lot. Worked like a charm.

    • Silversurfer

      You’re welcome.

  • Shopy

This works fine, but my push notifications are not working, i’ve tried push doctor, sam and all. what can i do

  • miggz

ive tried doin the restore straight from itunes with this custom firmware and am still on 05.15.04. how come its not upgrading the baseband:? its also not recognizing my tmobile sim card

    • Silversurfer

I don’t know why, but another reader who had the same BB as you do, had the same issue. Very strange.
Also, when you restore the IPSW, do you leave the SIM inside or take it out? You should leave it in.

  • miggz

and ive followed this TUT down to the t 3 or 4 times

  • tushar

    I got error 1600 first when I tried installing the cust. fimware with iTunes; Then I used iREB before installing the custom firmware, and then iTunes restore, this time got error 1611;
This time used redsn0w 0.9.5b with original 4.2.1_8C148 for DFU, and then iTunes restore with custom, after a while when the apple logo with the loading bar appears, the phone blinked once and went to recovery mode, and iTunes showed 1611 error again.

    what do i do?

    • Silversurfer

      I’m assuming you have a 3G right?

  • tushar

oh my bad, yes I have 3G, currently on 3.1.2(7D11) and 5.15.04 BB

    • tushar

      nothing? :|

      • Silversurfer

Sorry…Ok, if you have access yo another computer, try restoring from that.

If dont, create a new account on yours, install iTunes in the new account and restore. Let me know.

        • tushar

No, it didn’t work. I installed on another machine, still error 1611 and recovery mode.

          • Silversurfer

Try this: Put phone in DFU mode.
            Go into control panel\administrative settings\services.
Make sure that apple mobile device AND bonjour service is ON and started.
Plug in the iPhone and put it in DFU mode and tell iTunes to do the restore.

  • tushar

Ok the Apple Mobile Device service wasn’t on, did that. Showed error 1611 after try 1, 2nd time i tried it worked. It’s jailbroken with cydia installed, installed ultrasn0w, but still on 5.15.04!

The sim was inserted when i did the process. There’s something peculiar though, it’s showing me flash messages from the network provider–select preferred language, etc. But after some time of searching for the network, still says no service. :\

    • tushar

I used redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 for the ipad baseband flash only. worked like a charm.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace.

  • flavio

    hi guys.

  • Sakthi Ganesh

Hi guys, please help me out on my error. I used ultrasn0wrc8 and evrything was fine. but now the phone is not even switching on i tried ireb, ultrasn0w to put my iphone3G in DFU mode. but everytime I ended up in white screen. I am getting error 1600, 21 when restoring custom firmware in itunes. Iam running 6.15 BaseBand. Help me pls.

    • Silversurfer

Hi Sakthi, try to restore to custom firmware using another computer or if you don’t have one, creating another user account in your computer. Download from filehippo.com the correct iTunes version.
