Adobe‘s Digital Publishing Suite will add support for the Newsstand feature in the soon-to-be-released iOS 5 and this could bring more than 600 titles into Newsstand’s digital marketplace.
In a press released on Wednesday the company announced that with the addition of the Newsstand support, “publishers will be able to use Digital Publishing Suite to create files that are detected by Newsstand and automatically downloaded to the Newsstand shelf”. This will eliminate the long downloading times that can be a barrier to readers.
Another advantage is that DPS is a cross-platform software, meaning that the publication developed by publishers will be compatible to iOS devices as well as BlackBerry and .
The Newsstand feature was briefly explained during the iOS 5 public presentation during Apple‘s WWDC event in June. The application will allow users to store their existing subscriptions as well as offering users the chance to buy their favorite newspaper and magazine subscriptions from a dedicated section of the iTunes Store.
The app will also automatically download in the background the latest issues to your subscriptions and neatly present the cover images in the Newsstand rack.
Adobe said that the DPS update will be available as soon as Apple releases its iOS 5.
