If you are planning on buying a Hard Drive for your computer you should look into it now because the flood in Thailand is seriously affecting the production of magnetic hard drives.

Second only to China, Thailand produces hard drives for Western Digital and Seagate. The two brands control 90% of the global HDD market. Today’s news are that as much as 30% of the Thai territory is now underwater because of the unusually heavy monsoon rains and the Western Digital’s factory is literally underwater.wd_thai_lake

As demand for hard drives will outstrip the supply, the remaining stock will grow expensive and manufacturers have already raised prices by 20-40 percent.

The Thailand’s flood is not only affecting the computer industry: Toyota in the US has to slow down production of cars because the electronic components used in the manufacturing plants, are also coming from Thailand.

Digital camera prices and availability will also be affected.

So…if you are planning on buying some electronic gadgets for Xmas, you better get on with your shopping now.
